- There are 5 coastal National Parks and 26 coastal areas of
outstanding natural beauty in England, Wales and Northern
Ireland
- England and Wales have 45 Heritage Coasts measuring 950 miles
(1,520km)
- The National Trust owns 555 miles (888 km) of coastline in
Britain, and 74% of their coastline is designated Heritage
Coast
Aims of the TORRO Coastal Impacts Division
- To record all weather related coastal impacts in the United
Kingdom
- To research coastal storm climatology, its frequency,
magnitude and severity
- To database all notable coastal storm impacts in the United
Kingdom and from European and International TORRO
representatives
- To disseminate this information appropriately

This picture was taken on Wednesday 23rd November 1938
after 72mph winds and high seas at Southbourne, Dorset.
It is stated before the storm the beach came up to the cross
pieces of the huts under structure.
The hut is some 12ft further in the air after the storm!
