In The News
The 17th and 18th were both active severe weather days with several reports of events across the South-West, Midlands, North and Ireland.

On the 17th a tornado occurred at around 14.30 in the area of Baston, South Lincolnshire. There were 6 people injured slightly as they carried out archaeological work out in the open. They sought shelter in a works cabin that was moved around 70ft by the storm. Several eyewitnesses to this storm with supporting photography. See the thread here. There was also another Tornado relatively near to this event near March, Cambridgeshire. Fantastic photography of this storm here. Further North a Funnel Cloud was photographed during the evening of the 17th (see here) in the area of Drumclog, Lanarkshire.

On the 18th there was a report of a Funnel Cloud/Tornado with supporting photography on the thread here. Heavy rainfall effected the surrounding area causing roads to flood.

Heavy rain was given as the cause for a portion of ceiling at Manchester Airport collapsing during the 20th. No one was injured and no flights were effected by the incident. Also on the 20th a hillside scrub fire was caused by lightning at Abbey Mountain, Llangollen. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said that they have had 444 gorse fires over the summer period with over 200 being caused deliberately. No one was injured by the fires and fire fighters had to work hard to protect houses that could have become engulfed by the fire.

Llanrhystud near Aberystwyth was the scene of another Tornado on the 28th. See the site investigation by John Mason after the storm caused damage on a caravan park at around 22.30 that night.

Site Investigation
Members are reminded that that one of the prime functions of TORRO is to acquire and research severe weather. This can only be achieved by the pro-active involvement of its members in this worthwhile activity. It is only by getting out and seeing the damage and recording the detail in person that we can hope to gain a true understanding of what has occurred.
