In The News
April showers; where were they? Depending on where you were in the UK this month you were likely
to see little in the way of rain and in fact glorious sunshine was the order of the day. You can
see by the reports of severe weather that of course although there was plenty of heat the other
ingredients failed to show and that leaves me particularly disappointed with the no-show of
thunder, lightning and who knows what else 'could have been'.
Still - there were some wonderful examples of LDs reported in the local press of two UK towns
this month with accompanying photograph for one event.
This photograph depicting the LD that occurred at Telford on April 7th. Its one of those
phenomena that I think is really striking, given that not much goes into creating a LD (you may
disagree with me!). The last one I remember seeing was some years ago, perhaps the summer of 1998
when there was a field fire in the next village and the soaring temperatures and light winds
raised the resulting ash some height. No camera then unfortunately otherwise that would be a
really good image!
And Last But Not Least
Its almost that time of the year again when I start to re-invent the newsletter. It will be
two years since I took over making the newsletter when the July issue is published. I am already
developing part of the new look 'interactive' newsletter and if there is anything that I
don't currently offer in these publications, please PM me from the forum with your suggestions.
Site Investigation
Members are reminded that that one of the prime functions of TORRO is to
acquire and research severe weather. This can only be achieved by the pro-active involvement
of its members in this worthwhile activity. It is only by getting out and seeing the damage and
recoding the detail in person that we can hope to gain a true understanding of what has occurred.
